\"madonna-con-bambino-pieve-di-san-lorenzo-di-cosimo\"BORGO SAN LORENZO (pieve di San Lorenzo<\/a>) – The painting, attributed to the painter Piero di Cosimo and dating back to the very first years of the sixteenth century, depicts what is called a “sacred conversation”, in which the figures represented seem to assume a “talkative” attitude among themselves. The monumental setting of the figures, the basic and accurate design, the color range the painted used, as well as the sensible representation of the landscape, recall an archaic and neo-fifteenth-century tendency taken by the artist right at the beginning of the sixteenth century, perhaps because of the influence of the preaching of Savonarola on his soul. This is a work of remarkable pictorial qualities, an expression of such a simple and sincere devotion as cultivated and refined that draws its roots from a tradition of the highest level. The table does not come from the pieve in Borgo, where it has been placed just for conservation purposes, but from the oratory of the Holy Crucifix of Miracles, but it is not possible to determine when and why it was placed there. The presence of the Baptist would seem, in a hypothetical way, to hint towards a Florentine church, from where this work might have come to Borgo San Lorenzo following the Grand-ducal suppression of Religious Fellowships at the end of the eighteenth century.\u00f9<\/p>
