Andrea della Robbia, Adoring Angels (datable to 1498)
The two angels by Andrea della Robbia (Florence, 1435-1525), flanking a now-lost Madonna with Child, come from a lunette located at the entrance to the seat of the Company of Piazza, which is in the village centre. The lunette was stolen in 1913. Shortly afterward, only the angels were recovered and taken to ghe National Museum of the Bargello, in Florence. They remanine there until 2002, when they were returned to theri place of origin after bein restored. The relief was commissioned in 1498 by the rich Sant’Agata Company, to adorn the room where a teacher was hired to run a school in the village.
